What a disappointment! After failing to get reservations at a nearby campground we often enjoy, we decided to give this place a try. Had seen them at the RV show and was impressed by what we saw on the website. Stayed on a pull through "supersite"...the problem was that there was a grassy gap between the parking pad and the patio pad and the pads were not level with one another. Couple that problem with a major thunderstorm, and our entire site was seriously flooded. Quite aggravating to try to tear down camp by wading through 6" of rainwater! That was just one complaint about this place. Being a new campground, there is not a shady site to be had. It felt like we were just camping in a huge open field. Super windy also. There is only one playground and it is waaaaay in the front of the park....quite a hike for those staying towards the back as we were. Basketball courts and pavillions are near the playground also. The pool is laughably small for a park of this size. Even though it was nowhere near capacity, the pool was jammed with people constantly. They did have a nice lake area to swim in also, which we enjoyed. Boat rentals available as well. Golf carts can be rented but are quite expensive compared with other parks we've stayed in. Camp store is impressive....neat and very well stocked. They have a pizza place inside also, and the pizza can be delivered to your site if you choose. We ate inside and quite enjoyed it. All in all this campground has great potential, but the amenities would need to be upgraded and improved upon before I consider staying here again at this nightly rate.
We unfortunately did not even get a chance to stay at this park. We checked out the website, planned a trip in conjunction with a business trip for my spouse and tried to make a reservation for a week-long Saturday to Saturday stay......nope, can't do that. This park will not allow Saturday check-in!!! Even though the park was not anywhere near full for the dates we selected. They claimed that too many children would be running around, and they did not want incoming traffic to pose a hazard. What?!?!?!? So they lost a chance to fill a site, a week's worth of camping fees and forever lost our business to another campground that is more accommodating to their guests!
This is, by far, the nicest campground we've stayed in. We visited in 2005 and liked it so much we decided to return this year; already have reservations for summer 2007 as well! Facilities are top notch: pools, game room, beach, restrooms were all great. Nice camp store and a few different snack bars were a bit overpriced but you can't beat the convenience. Personally we love the golf carts; our kids would ride around on them all day if we drove them! This has become an annual summer vacation for our family.
This was an OK park for an overnight but I wouldn't consider it for an extended stay. It was a stopover for us between Michigan and Myrtle Beach. Convenient enough location right off the freeway and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Full hook-up sites were extremely tight, some of the smallest I've ever seen. Sites further back with just water and electric are nicely shaded but a bit unlevel. Facilities are a bit dated and need some work. Playground was pathetic, very outdated equipment. Fun center had several video games but many were out of order. Indoor batting cages were also not functioning correctly and were being worked on when we visited. Pool was closed due to some sort of incident earlier in the day, but we don't know the exact reason. Next time we will probably try Ft. Chiswell RV Park and see how it compares before staying here again.
Since this is so close to home for us, it's our favorite weekend camping location. Very generously sized sites for a KOA, and several of the pull throughs have concrete pads. Lots of good activities: pool, game room, bike rental, pancake breakfasts, train rides, volleyball, etc. They also rent golf carts. Next door is Sawmill City with mini-golf, batting cages, go karts, and bumper boats; there is a direct entrance to it through the campground. The staff have been very accommodating, friendly and helpful each and every time we have stayed here. One of the best KOAs around.
Nice KOA, good size sites and nice amenities. They have a very large playground area and I especially liked the fact that there is a separate fenced off area specifically for small toddlers with Little Tykes climbers, playhouses, etc. We have only stayed here in the fall for their Halloween weekends (great fun, not to be missed!) but they seem to have some nice activities for the summer including a waterslide and swimming lake, bike rentals, and mini-golf. Campground is owned by a very nice family and staff is very accommodating. Camp store is well stocked as well.
Very nice state park, we've been staying here for years and always have a great time. Sites are good size and most are nicely shaded. Newer bath houses. Love being so close to the lake and the camp store has yummy ice cream too!
